Making the waste and recycling industry a safer place to work
In this talking heads video, we’re joined by Chris Jones OBE, Cory’s Director of Risk Management and Compliance. Chris’s dedication to safety is evident through his involvement in the founding and chairing of the Waste Industry Safety and Health Forum (WISH). Under his leadership, WISH has united regulators, government bodies, local authorities, charitable groups, trade bodies, and private sector organisations to share best practices and coordinate safety initiatives. These efforts have led to a remarkable 25% reduction in RIDDOR rates across the sector.
As Chair of the Environmental Services Association Health & Safety Committee, Chris implemented programmes that reduced injury rates by 85% among ESA members, preventing 10,000 serious injuries and 20 fatalities. At Cory, his initiatives have resulted in a 70% reduction in workplace injury rates.
