A successful UK prop hire firm, which supplies furniture, textiles and accessories to the film industry, has secured a move to larger premises in the iconic Elstree area of North London. The move was facilitated with the help of commercial property experts at national law firm Bevan Brittan.
The Classic Prop Hire Company has signed a lease for a term of just over 12 years for the 64,645 sq ft premises at Panattoni Park on Elstree Way, as part of the new state of the art Sky Studios complex close to where some of the UK’s best-known film and TV productions have been made.
The company was founded in 2018 and has quickly established itself as a leading supplier of props and set dressing. It has met demand for a range of classic furniture and accessories varying from the medieval era through to the 1980s.
It will now move from its current base in Southall, West London, to its new facilities within the Elstree set-up, placing it right in the heart of its customer base and one of the best-known areas in the UK industry.
The new site in Elstree, leased from broadcasting giant Sky on an agreement rising to £1.2m a year within the first three years of the term, will allow it to merge up to four separate units into a larger space.
Sara Wan, co-founder and CEO at the Classic Prop Hire Company, said: “This is an exciting move which places us within the heart of the film community and we are thrilled to be joining the impressive Sky complex.
“Elstree is a renowned location in our industry, and more importantly, this new space provides the size and flexibility we need to continue to support our customers in the years ahead in the dynamic UK film industry.”
The company was advised throughout its strategic relocation by an expert team from Bevan Brittan, including property partner Nick Thackray as well as Legal Director and construction expert VanWyck Johnson.
Nick Thackray of Bevan Brittan said: “This has been a memorable project to work on with the team at The Classic Prop Hire Company. It is not every day that you get the chance to advise on a property deal for such an iconic location and it is brilliant to have helped the team find the right space for their business on the right terms.
“The new site offers them scope for growth and the chance to shape the space to their needs as they develop their offering. We are excited to see their business continue to flourish and we wish them every success.”
Next year sees the 100th anniversary of the first feature film to be completed at Elstree. In the decades since, a host of famous films have been made there including The Dam Busters, Moby Dick, Star Wars and The Shining. TV shows shot at the site include The Avengers, The Muppet Show, EastEnders and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Most recently the Oscar winning blockbuster musical Wicked was filmed at Sky Studios.
