I am a solicitor in the Health & Care Regulatory team, based in the London office. My work includes advising clients across the health and social care sector, including ICBs, NHS Trusts and independent health and social care providers.
My work predominantly involves advising and representing clients in Court of Protection proceedings under Section 16 and Section 21A of the Mental Capacity Act 2005; at inquests; under the inherent jurisdiction of the High Court; advising on policies and procedures; and advising clients in relation to continuing healthcare assessments and any disputes arising out of these.
I have experience in a broad range of different matters in the Court of Protection in both section 16 welfare applications and section 21A challenges. I have extensive experience of these cases including disputes about residence and care; contact with others; property and financial affairs; complex hoarding cases; the use of CCTV monitoring; allegations and investigations into financial abuse or mismanagement of finances; capacity to engage in sexual relations; and where the application concerns serious medical treatment in relation to āPā. I often conduct advocacy in Court of Protection proceedings and at inquests.
I also advise clients on applications to authorise deprivations of liberty in the community under the streamlined Re X procedure.
In my previous role, I represented vulnerable adults in proceedings in the Court of Protection, usually instructed by the Official Solicitor. I have also previously represented clients detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended) at the First-tier Tribunal (Mental Health) and advised on cases at the Upper Tribunal. I have extensive experience working alongside professionals in a healthcare and social care environment.
