Roger Johnson v Andrew Williams
I am a medical malpractice and clinical negligence lawyer, and trained at Bevan Brittan. I have been active in these sectors since 2010.
My practice straddles the health market: I act for NHS Trusts (representing surgeons, doctors, midwives and nurses); GPs and other staff in GP practices; and leading medical insurers, representing their various clients such as individual doctors in private practice, private clinics, and other independent sector providers. I also manage claims issued in other jurisdictions.
Types of claims: I am experienced in a broad range of claims including:
My aim is to defend claims robustly where justified (see trials under Career Highlights tab) but to deal with them fairly and cost-effectively if ADR/settlement is appropriate. I support healthcare professionals through the litigation process with a clear sense of direction, assisting them in avoiding reputational damage and keeping the process as stress free as possible for them.
Training/seminars/secondments: I am regularly asked to provide training to legal services personnel and to doctors & nurses on the medico-legal process. I have been an invited speaker at conferences run by an insurer. I have also undertaken several secondments at NHS Resolution, in Trust legal services departments and at 2 leading medical malpractice insurers, and therefore have a good grasp of matters on the ground.
"Your management/handling of this case was excellent. You did and always do provide the Trust with excellent support. The ongoing support you provided to the Clinician, I do know was very much appreciated by him. Nothing is too much trouble for you in relation to answering/assisting with any information/advice requested and notably in this case which was quite difficult. I always enjoy working with you and your colleagues.” – a large acute NHS Trust.
"Our solicitor's diligent preparation, intuitiveness and sensitivity of approach throughout [the case and trial] provided support and expert advice to everyone involved, especially the clinician concerned. The Trust recognises that this was undoubtedly a key feature to the eventual and most positive outcome for us." – a large acute NHS Trust.
"Just want to thank you for the excellent lecture you delivered this morning, it was perfectly pitched and they were all so very enthusiastic afterwards. We feel it will make a significant difference to the way they practice." – a large NHS teaching Trust.
“Congratulations! Well done you… Very good choice of expert you recommended...Thanks again for all of your help and hard work. An excellent outcome!” – an NHS Resolution case handler.
