I am a commercial projects specialist with 18 years of experience who develops and delivers complex PFI/PPP projects across the energy, waste and infrastructure markets advising a variety of key stakeholders with a particular specialism and passion for advising procuring authorities (local, central and combined/joint authorities). I enjoy getting involved in matters at all stages and am often involved to structure the project right at the beginning, during procurement, implementation, through to completion and beyond as well as input into ongoing operational queries and on expiry/termination.
I continue to be recognised as a Rising Star and/or Leading Lawyer in Legal 500 in the energy, project finance and PFI and government practice areas for my work.
I have strong credentials in three key specialisms advising public body clients balanced with key private sector experience. The three areas are:
• delivery of traditional PFI / PPP Projects (including variations and expiry);
• delivery of innovative energy projects; and
• advising on the initial structure of a project including the bringing together of experts across the firm to recommend an approach, setting up joint working capabilities (if required) and as preparing bespoke contracts to deliver the project.In relation to the Energy and Resource Management group at Bevan Brittan, I advise clients to develop renewable energy projects in the drive towards net zero. Key areas are energy from waste, hydrogen, EV, and carbon capture which includes developing innovative contracts to deliver such projects as many of these sectors are in their infancy. I enjoy getting involved in matters at all stages and am often involved to structure the project right at the beginning as mentioned above for both public and private sector clients.
Looking at general PFI/PPP experience including my waste experience, I develop complex energy, waste and infrastructure projects to design, build, operate and maintain facilities as well as assisting with not only ongoing operational issues but also on expiry/termination across a variety of sectors. Looking at waste in more detail, I pride myself on being a trusted legal lead on projects treating residual waste, food waste and green waste or a combination of these technologies as well as collection contracts. I have advised on projects with merchant facilities, multiple sites and a variety of funding solutions including prudential borrowing, project finance and corporate finance.
To expand on my joint ventures/ structuring experience, I have a particular interest in advising local authorities, groups of local authorities and private sector clients to structure deals across a variety of sectors from contractual joint working mechanisms to setting up companies, partnership and everything in between. From a public body perspective, work includes ensuring that the public body has the vires to undertake such structures/joint working and that the proposed structure complies with procurement and subsidy control provisions.
I am a hardworking, diligent, enthusiastic, and loyal individual who can independently lead projects as well as working as a collaborative member of a client’s team.
