I am a commercial lawyer specialising in the energy, waste, resource management and climate change sectors in the UK and internationally. My focus is on the commercial contracts for complex services arrangements and infrastructure projects using project finance and PFI/PPP models. In addition to the contracts for funding, construction, EPC, construction, fuel supply and O&M arrangements, I advise on EU procurement, dispute management, planning and environmental issues.
I advise energy generators, developers, banks and investors, energy off takers, waste management companies, local authorities and other organisations in the energy, waste and resource management supply chain. I use my commercial and market knowledge to help deliver innovative solutions for my clients.
In relation to waste, I advise on infrastructure for both merchant plants and PPP procurements across a range of technology sectors. My clients include Viridor Waste Management, Veolia Environmental Services and a number of local authorities across the UK. Examples include Merchant EfW plants in Oxfordshire and Cardiff, as well as an extensive number of PFI/PPP projects in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
I also advise on a range of other waste services delivery and environmental matters. This includes waste collection, street cleansing and recycling contracts, as well as advice on planning/consenting issues. Examples include waste services procurements in Cheshire and Bridgend and planning appeals/statutory reviews for waste infrastructure.
My energy experience covers energy generation, decentralised energy networks and energy efficiency projects. I have been involved with on shore gas and coal mine methane CHP projects in Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire. I am advising on district heating/heat networks and CHP schemes in London, Plymouth and Cardiff. I advise on Green Deal and various projects for local authorities and NHS Trusts which deliver energy cost savings and improve the energy efficiency of public sector infrastructure.
In terms of renewable energy, I advise on wind, solar, marine, biomass and geothermal projects. Examples include, on shore wind projects in Yorkshire and Avonmouth, solar/PV deals for NHS Trusts, a wave hub project for a regional development agency and biomass plants for private sector developers.
Publications:
I am a contributor to journals in the waste and renewables sector including Materials Recycling World.
Seminars and Training:
My work involves regularly speaking at conferences and seminars, including a recent talk for the Environmental Services Association. I also plan and run in-house training for external and internal clients.
