I am an experienced employment lawyer with over a decade’s experience specialising in this area, predominantly advising employers on both day-to-day and complex HR issues at all stages in the employee lifecycle. I have worked with a wide range of clients including to a public service broadcaster, charities, universities, local authorities, financial institutions, police forces, retail brands, manufacturers and schools.
My work is wide ranging and I have managed and advised on multi-faceted Tribunal claims (often with a significant reputational element), negotiated settlements, complex investigations, restructures and redundancies, trade union relations, equal pay, discrimination, whistleblowing, and TUPE. I have also supported on the employment aspects of wider projects such as the creation of a university-owned school, collaborations between public and private organisations, and the creation of commercial subsidiaries. I also assist organisations in preparing and updating staff contracts and policies in order to ensure ongoing compliance and protections for the business. I also regularly provide tailored training for HR teams and managers on employment law developments and best practice.
In previous roles I have led the employment team of a local authority legal department, acting for both that authority but also external public sector clients (other local authorities, schools, police forces, PCCs) with whom I built trusted working relationships. I also have significant legal experience working for a university and a public service broadcaster (including its charities). As such I am familiar with the scrutiny and additional financial pressures being faced in the public and third sectors and can ensure that my advice is not only commercial, but workable and minimises risk for the organisation in other ways (e.g. FOI requests).
Having worked both in law firms and in-house legal departments, I know what it is like to be on both sides of the client relationship and am committed to working with you to provide the tailored advice you require in a practical, cost-effective, and pragmatic manner.
