Bevan Brittan has once again performed strongly in the newly published independent directory to the legal sector, Legal 500.

Building on last year’s results, the firm has increased both the number of ‘Tier One’ practice area rankings and elite ‘Leading Lawyers’ in the newly published 2021 directory, as well as the number of ‘Next Generation Partners’ and 'Rising Stars'.

The firm’s Leeds office performed particularly well this year, improving or maintaining its ranking in every practice area in the Yorkshire region.

Four practice areas have moved up to ‘Tier One’ ranking: Construction (South West), Social Housing (South West), Healthcare (Yorkshire) and Local Government (Yorkshire).

These join seven other practice areas already listed in the Top Tier: Social Housing (South West, Yorkshire), Local Government (London, South West), Healthcare (London, South West), Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury: Defendant (South West) and Employment: Bristol (South West).

In total, the firm is ranked across 40 practice areas.

Individual performance was also impressive, with an increase in the number of ‘Leading Lawyers’ to 14, demonstrating the breadth of the firm’s expertise across a wide range of areas:

  • Louise Robling (Construction)
  • Jonathan Turner (Construction)
  • Sarah Lamont (Employment: Bristol & Local Government)
  • Sharon Renouf (Health)
  • Rosemary Jago (Health)
  • David Hutton (Local Government)
  • Alison Buckingham (Social Housing)
  • Nadeem Arshad (Energy, Project Finance & PFI)
  • Steve Eccles (Property Litigation)
  • Kathryn Lawrance (Planning)
  • Joanna Lloyd (Clinical Negligence: Defendant)
  • Paul Taverner (Personal Injury)
  • Judith Barnes (Local Government)
  • Louise Leaver (Social Housing: Finance)

In total, 65 of the firm’s lawyers were mentioned in the Legal 500 commentary for their standout contribution to respective practices.

Reflecting on the positive results, Bevan Brittan’s Managing Partner Duncan Weir said:

“To once again see such a strong set of results in this highly respected directory is very pleasing. We have seen success in Construction and Healthcare, and Local Government and Social Housing continue to display their market-leading positions.

“To see such strong performance from our Leeds office this year as it celebrates its fifth anniversary, improving or maintaining our ranking in every practice area, marks excellent recognition of our growing reputation in the Yorkshire region.

“We have a very talented set of lawyers here at Bevan Brittan, all of whom are closely supported by their teams and business support colleagues, and this achievement is testament to the hard work of them all over the past twelve months – during what has been an uncertain time for us all.

“Following our recent strong set of financial results as we now find ourselves in our seventh consecutive year of growth, this positive outcome underlines the growing reputation of the firm as we continue to offer market-leading legal and regulatory advice that delivers our clients outstanding results.”
