News and current affairs for those working within Higher Education Institutions
I am the national head of pensions with 21 years’ experience of providing plain English solutions to Employers, Trustees and Providers in relation to what is both a wide and a very technical area.
A widespread range of clients has meant I have advised on a diverse range of areas from final salary scheme deficit reduction strategies and implementation to scheme entry into the Pensions Protection Fund. Auto enrolment compliance, GDPR for pensions and DC scheme governance (including during wind up) along with corporate and pensions restructuring (involving both private sector and public sector schemes) have been significant issues over the last few years.
I have pursued and defended pensions litigation claims including cases with the Pensions Ombudsman, advised both SSAS and SIPP providers in relation to a wide range of issues, prepared documentation for a range of Death in Service arrangements and been involved with numerous consultation and communication exercises to close schemes, or to introduce smart pensions or otherwise amend scheme rules and benefits.
Nigel knows all the past history of pension trends and market, including in our industry. His ability to simplify knowledge and condense it too amazes me.
Aside from advising on all aspects of pensions corporate support work I have advised a range of bodies in relation to most public sector pension schemes including outsourcing, documentation, disputes, governance and investment issues including ESG.
I am a member of the Association of Pensions Lawyers and Pensions Management Institute and a regular speaker on a range of pensions and employee benefit topics.
Having acted as a director of an Independent Trustee for 20 years I have a unique insight into what trustees of schemes of all types need from their advisers. I am a recommended lawyer in Legal 500 and ranked in Chambers and Partners.
Nigel Bolton was extremely knowledgeable about pensions and responsive when needed.
